The Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Santiago (IDIS) is a biomedical research center with a strong translational character that takes advantage of the synergies of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago de Compostela (CHUS) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) to encourage, promote and foster research of excellence, scientific and technological knowledge and its subsequent transfer to the productive sector, as well as teaching and training, always with a clear objective: to improve the health of the population.

It was established on January 31, 2008, through a collaboration agreement between the Consellería de Sanidade, the Servizo Galego de Saúde and the University of Santiago de Compostela and is accredited since March 2010, as a research center of the National Health System, by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, renewing this accreditation every 5 years, May 18, 2015 and March 10, 2020.

Currently 1213 people are integrated in 106 research groups, organized in 7 research areas: (A001) Oncology, (A002) Genetics and Systems Biology, (A003) Endocrinology, Nutrition and Metabolism, (A004) Neurosciences and (A005) Platforms and Methodology, (A006) Cardiovascular and (A007) Infectious Diseases, Inflammation and Vaccines.
